However, as you can see, it is not a Microsoft web site. Once you have done that, or if you were already at service pack 1, 1A or 2, then install SP3 by downloading and running from Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help.
Thanks for your feedback. I had to do a recovery to my windows xp and have a service pk2 cd; I installed it but when I go to install sp 3 and other windows updates I get a message that I must install svc pk 2. That's all it says. I have used the disc, uninstalled the sp2 and used the download and it still says I need sp2. Thanks for your feedback. This thread is locked. I have the same question Report abuse. Details required :. Cancel Submit. In reply to clivegulliver's post on November 12, I would not hold your breath waiting for MS to create a download of XP home if you have a valid license or not. As far as Windows Update is concerned, you need to manually download and install XP service pack 3 before Windows Update will work.
If the recovery disk reinstalled any free trial of an antivirus program, remove it with the appropriate tool:. After sp3 has installed by running the file you downloaded , reboot twice.

I have already been to the eMachines link you sent me and no drivers were available. It didn't prompt me to insert another disc. I am currently using AVG. Whenever i tried to search for updates in Windows Update a loading bar would start filling in then it would say "failed to connect" Which means what??
I am connected to the internet!! How do i get my sound working again and how do i get the PC to work with my widescreen monitor? I can't find any. Similarly, Windows Update won't work for XP until you already have service pack 3.
It's not difficult to manually install service pack 3 and service pack 2, if you need it , but unless you can find drivers, there's really no point in doing that.
You wouldn't have been prompted to put in another CD. You're just supposed to know that you have to install the drivers and software CDs after you use the operating system restore CD.
When you went to the eMachines download site, did you search by serial number or product model?
