I hope there is some instructions on how to install these templates to SPF. The instructions on the web is for SP not for SP foundation. I just downloaded the Help Desk template that Stefan suggested above. For what it's worth, I followed the steps in the read me except I didn't make a new web app and site collection, I just used the one I had , and it is up and fine.
However, I don't remember what the one from the old WSS 3. But it seems to have everything you need. Remember, if it isn't perfect, at least all the parts are there so you can tweak them if you want like the views of the lists on the Service Rep's dashboard so they don't only show closed items. The trick is these templates were the Site Admin templates of old- in other words, they were the templates that you could just add as a site collection administrator and didn't need farm access.
If you needed the farm administrator templates, the ones that were applied at the farm level, those required a templatecore solution to be applied first, then you did the individual templates you needed.
So that was a two step process. All that said, sadly, totally broke a lot of the solutions, templates, and cool stuff that people did for WSS 3. Bad enough that few people, if anybody, has bothered to even try to offer anything close to what they did before. T ry these new updated templates and. I almost broke my head on this too. I downloaded one of the Fab40 site templates, that were ported to Sharepoint by Techsolutions, and followed the installation instructions to the letter.
Uploading and activating the new solution worked without problems, there were no errors showing up. However when trying to create a new site based on this template, it did not show up! It simply wasn't in the template list. Finally I found the reason: The templates work only on the English version of Sharepoint ! One solution would be to install the English language pack for Sharepoint. But since I don't have a use for this I worked out another solution:.
