Computer cannot access network shares windows 7

What could I be missing? I am completely stumped here. I know the solution is out there and it's probably something so simple, but this is driving me insane. When I had another Win 7 computer in there, the two Windows 7's could talk all day. Now I add Windows 10 and it can't do anything. A firewall is one, but SMB is allowed. Even turned the firewall off. Even uninstalled the entire security software Trend Micro and tried with Windows firewall off and on.

Still nothing. It sounds like the users default login is being tried and denied because it doesn't exist on the win7 machine. What happens. Did you check only in the operating system features? Or did you also check the settings for your LAN on Windows 10 and on Windows 7, which SMB versions are configured to be supported and which one is minimum version?

You may try with SMB 1. Check firewalls on both the computers and make sure that File and Printer sharing is turned ON for Domain, public and private profile. Also check the SMB versions on both the computers. Windows 7 supports SMBv1 but in windows 10 it is disabled due to security reasons.

I cannot grant full access to the users since they must not view files they don't have permission to view. I don't quite understand the situation, if you want to deny access to some other files, then you can change the security permission of that specific file so that users can not be able to access it.

I tried the cmd command you suggested below is the output: — Neaox. You haven't answered my first question about any error messages you receive when trying to access the shares :- Also check that network discovery hasn't been disabled on the server, and that the firewall isn't blocking the traffic.

If your server is behind a perimeter firewall, it should be safe to temporarily turn the server's firewall off completely to test whether this is the cause. On the computer I am on now it gives no error as I have 'always available' offline files that are stored on the server user profiles.

Thanks for the suggestions :D — Neaox. Show 3 more comments. Active Oldest Votes. Click change adaptor settings on the left hand side. Right click the network adaptor if you have more than one you may need to do this on all of them. Select "Properties" from the list. Click the "Uninstall" button.

Click "Yes" when the conformation box appears and wait for it to uninstall "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" will disappear from the "This connection uses the following items:" box once uninstalled. Click the "Install" button. Select "Service" from the "Click the type of network feature you want to install:" box.

Click "OK" and it should install in less than a few seconds "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" will reappear in the "This connection uses the following items:" box once installed. Restart the computer and the problem should be fixed. Thanks for all the help and suggestions everyone. Improve this answer. Add a comment.
