I have seen this before at my previous job. If these do not match up, then you could see problems. So the Windows security was changed, but the drivers weren't, we had to do that manually. We've been having this issue for over a year now and I've tried everything from updating drives to rebuilding our printer server. No useful info from Microsoft or HP. The only work around I've found that works is to change the default printer to something else and then back to the original, magically Excel then prints.
We had a similar problem with HP printers printing from Win7 x When they went to print the application would stop responding. Only workaround I was able to find was giving the users a batch file to kill the splwow Robert and Wonderboy. Perhaps we could find some similarites between us. We are also going to load the printer as two different models one with ps and one with pcl drivers to see if for some crazy reason that matters at all. Again I can't see why it would because of the random nature of the problem. Are you printing to only one printer or it doesnt print to any printer in the organization? If its any printer, then it might be an issue with your Office installation.
